Ferrari enters its 60th season in F1 more motivated than ever to once again win the driver’s championship. Kimi Raikonnen has already won the championship once, and will be looking to prove himself as a world champion more than ever. Felipe Massa lost the 2008 title in the last corner of the last race, due to circumstances outside his control, and has shown that he can compete with the best the field has to offer. The team will be looking to recover from the severe blunders that caused Massa to lose the 2008 title.

The new car, called the F60, has shown that it is very potent. Only the Brawn was able to eclipse the Ferrari during tests. The team has also confirmed that they will be running their KERS system in Australia. The only achilles heal of the F60 seems to be reliability, mainly with its KERS system. The team lost a lot of hours during testing, sorting out reliability issues. They are adamant that reliability will be sorted in Australia, however this remains to be seen.

Raikonnen has already mentioned that he is very happy with the F60. It really suits his driving style, with the return to slicks especially helping. Massa is also pleased with the car, being able to consistently produce quick laps with car. 2009 will probably be Massa’s last chance to clinch the title. He has the team behind him, he is sill motivated by his loss in 2008, and the F60 has title-winning potential.

There’s no doubt that Ferrari will be fighting for the championship from the first race. The team seems to have adapted successfully to the new regulations, even after developing 2008’s car up to the last possible moment. Reliability remains an issue, and will be the only thing keeping the team back in 2009.
